Gareth Hardwick "I Dream of Red"

?I Dream of Red? unfurls from the speakers like a smoke ring, gradually consuming the atmosphere in my bedroom, leaving me to huff and puff helplessly as it?s thick texture hangs in the air around my head. I guess an easy reference would be the somnambulist drones of Stars of the Lid and I can attest to the ease with which this 17minute track ushers me into a deep warm sleep. And that isn?t a criticism by any means.

A 3?cd lovingly packaged in a mini-DVD case is no bad thing in my books and limiting it to 50 copies almost certainly guarantees a rush of blood to the nerd glands. Luckily Mr Hardwick has recently followed up this EP with a full length on the mysterious Unlabel that promises to be just as gorgeously soporific. 7/10 -- Rich Hopkins (28 June, 2006)
