Om/Current 93 "Inerrant Rays of Infallible Sun (Blackship Shrinebuilder)"

Om and Current 93?s ?Inerrant Rays of Infallible Sun (Blackship Shrine Builder)? is the long awaited split 10? (just released on CD) that fulfills the promise David Tibet made when he declared his undying love for the transcendental heavy psych duo and announced the impending coupling. Though some sort of collaboration may be in the works, these two tracks are simply Current 93 and Om, each doing its own take on the titular concept of infallible radiance. On ?Inerrant Infallible (Black Ships at Nineveh and Edom),? Tibet plays electric guitar, bass and sings about the bible, Reese Witherspoon, Gog and Magog, and so on in an infuriated wail that expands on themes introduced on the excellent ?Black Ships Ate the Sky? album. Toss in some bagpipes over the repetitious trudge through the expected and unexpected and you?ve got yourself what just might be the most menacing Current 93 track since ?Horsey.? The Om side, ?Rays of the Sun / To the Shrinebuilder? is a tad more typical with low-end undulations backing Al Cisneros?s imagery of crimson skies and cosmic absolution. Comes with tight copper colored packaging available in a variety of colored vinyl, though green is most common. Not necessarily essential all the way, but the Current track should definitely be heard. 7/10 -- Lee Jackson (23 October, 2006)
