I?m not sure if the Californian label Not Not Fun ever decided to never drop the ball but they can?t seem to stop surprising us with new bands, new tunes and new fancy packaging. While we know of Robedoor by now, or at least should know, they?ve been pulling out new names out of their sleeves like it ain?t no thang. Ever heard of Barrabarracuda, Sasqrotch, Bellyboat and Goliath Bird Eater? Soon you will, I?m sure.
This split single is more of a sure shot for the label. Portland?s Ghosting are known to craft some of the finest dronescapes in the States and Robedoor are firm contributors to the Secret Club of Awesome.
Side A of this 7? is the Ghosting track ?Rivermouth? which uses the metallic characteristics of the guitarsnare to unleash it?s waves of liquid metal, quicksilver streams of melancholic drones gushing against your eardrums. It?s the kind of drones that feel dangerous but are just so intriguing to listen to.
?Roving Shaman? has Robedoor cooking up more of their ritualistic drone sorcery. A looping whirl of sound starts things up while slowly their trademark murky vocals get thrown in and the duo builds up to a great locked groove which actually spinned a few rounds here before I noticed. ?Roving Shaman? may not sound as dark or intriguing as some of Robedoor?s other albums, its highly addictive. 7/10 --
