This is a CDR reissue of a very limited lathe cut LP (plus one track not on the original release). The actual content of this disc are the results of recording sessions that took place in one of the fabled abandoned bunkers on New Zealand?s south island in the midst of their summer. As for who is playing on this disc, it is a veritable all star cast of the regional free noise/improv scene including members of XNoBBQX, The Unaustralians, and numerous others from the Breakdance the Dawn/Pulled Out Records horde. On these recordings they were joined by Snakes Beings (for the uninitiated, these are some seriously heavy dudes with their fingers in a lot of
things) and Antony Milton.
These jams are very percussive (heavy on the XNoBBQX), and at times to such a degree that the only sound you hear is a blown out bass drum rumble with a distant cacophony of horns, reeds and strings. This is like some freaked out lo-fi, kraut rock, early Throbbing Gristle influenced primitive ritual perpetrated with only skin, wood, and possibly bone, and all caught on tape submitted for your aural approval. As with any recording of this spontaneous nature, not every moment is one of sheer brilliance, but on this disc those moments are kept to a pleasing minimum which makes for a very consistently intriguing listen. 7/10 --
