Slow Listener has kept things simple on this Rorschach splashed CD-R release, taking three of four tremulous lines of Stubble-cracked current and running them through the record without much obvious manipulation. On the first pass ?I?m Not Afraid?? feels less minutely garlanded than his usual work, but the last two tracks feel like they?ve had more of a human touch. It?s just that the drones here lack the clarity and volubility that can come with simplicity. ?Two? features what could be pieces of non-feedback based sound, low-key pagan moans that reveal how relatively bare parts of the disc sound in comparison. It?s the third piece that feels the most alive though, and closest to the usual peaks, the feedback coiling and stretching as it begins to grate on itself. As the untitled tracks progress and tones touch other tones, the convergence of lines creates beautiful near-invisible melodies, but these are sadly short-lived. Slow Listener?s choice of minimalism may be his downfall here, his usual proficiency in drone-crafting not evident here, several times taking the drone back to zero instead of pushing the lines further like meandering ivy. 6/10 --
