Australian guitarist/glitch artist Shoeb Ahmad takes shoegazing to the next level with this release on the mighty fine Cook an Egg Label. ?Sonar Love Songs? is a perfect description for this collection of heavily processed dronescapes. This could be Venusian whale song, or the sounds of waves crashing in near vacuum: lush, warm tones interspersed with distortion and glitch. Ahmad?s music is bleary in the vein of weirder FSA or less mechanized Tim Hecker. Mutually soothing and grating, the strength of ?Sonar Love Songs? lies in its ability to mesmerize without being at all boring. This is a fine slice of broken drone, a fever dream you don?t want to end. 7/10 --
