The gently loping guitar drones, which are occasionally interspersed with rusty chirps and wails, were the perfect complement to my initial listen to this tape while in Kansas for the holidays. Sparse, bleak, minimal, with a sort of majestic earthiness to the choice of tones, like cicadas on the prairie; at times these recordings very closely mimic the sounds of pastoral nature scenes.
The b-side reveals quite a different sound. Deep drones throb with great intensity that is punctuated with some clicks and clatter, and an occasional strike of the strings. The variation on this side is extremely subtle. We end with a brief warbly interval followed by a delicately strummed ballad. Another gem from Peasant Magik and highly recommended for traversing the flat lands. 7/10 --
