This LP compilation provides a snapshot of a few of Florida’s youthful weirdo punk and noise scenes circa summer of 2007, featuring one side filled with groups from Tampa and the other from Sarasota. The Tampa side, assembled by Cephia’s Treat, contains sixteen brief tracks that run the gamut of sloppy punk (WRASH), grindcore mayhem (Andros Rex), synth fuckery (S2K), and budget electro (OutMode), most of which is recorded live and/or quite shittily making for a rather grating listen. The Sarasota flip, clearly the winner here, displays more of the trickle down effects of Harry Pussy and To Live and Shave in L.A. on young Floridian minds. The mechanical punk of Pharoah Faucett’s “Wonderous Gourd” has bursts of H.P. explosiveness and Skeleton Warrior’s squealing out-rock shows genuine promise. Later, groups like Lava Transmissions, Coleman Tents, and FiFi work the tapes and electronics angle, some of which spit forth some Tom Smith-like microphone munch along the way. As a release, it’s probably only of interest to those among these particular scenes, but there’s a few among the Roofless camp to definitely keep an eye on. 4/10 --
