There’s something in Reverse Mouth’s abrasive textures and ritualistic vibe that’s reminiscent of Sufi trance musicians from northern Morocco. Burroughs and other early admirers of the reedy din called it Panic music. Reverse Mouth’s improvisations don’t unfold quickly enough to create Panic. Theirs is more like the sound of gathering dread and terror. It’s only a couple of prepared and effects-treated guitars, but the combined effect is extremely unsavory and godforsaken. Take lots of feedback, trebly drone, and the occasional hint of what could perhaps be called a guitar riff and you’ve got the sound of the Underworld. 8/10 --
