Be Maledetto Now! "Abisso Del Passato Pt. 2"

Alongside fellow space scapers Joe Meek, Sun Ra, Hendrix, Syd Barrett, et al., Italian duo Be Maledetto Now prove they too can create some fine star symphonies. “Abisso Del Passato 2” (version 1 is vinyl only) conjures swirling celestial phenomena and the advanced technology used to explore and explain it. Opener “I Ribelli Dei 50 Soli Part 2” would fit perfectly with the many scenes from 2001 that show space ships happily drifting along. “The Heaven Makers Part Vi-IX” is a bit more sinister, its deep pulse and sense of constricting gravity feels like a slow but inevitable entry into a black hole maelstrom. End transmission. Concluding the album is “Tutti Quei Simulacri,” a vaporizing, majestic drone piece with a tone-perfect Krautrock melody. All three tracks here are consistently well composed, evolving nicely while keeping a retro touch to things. The vintage space feel BMN do such a stellar job in locating will easily teleport your imagination light years away. 8/10 -- Mike Pursley (7 April, 2010)
