Both Gish and Andrew Perry’s improv/noise credentials have been steadily building of late, a recent cluster of individual releases have been gathering them a head of underground steam. “I’m Afraid I Ate Too Much Butter As A Youth” is their first collaborative release, and a further incremental plus point on their journey. Akin to being soaked in the condiment of the disc’s name, “The Sandwich Girls Of Belgium” is driven by thick liquid swirls, field recordings and the click of speech and mastication. These sibilant whispers, ominous in their obscurity, are laid over dragged electric chime and lowkey drones. The title track follows a similar reined pattern, a bass pulse and contact mic mutter with a rare plink-loop from a thumb piano. Unfortunately, this release ends on a low note – “Kent”. Its unclear if this piece of captured conversation is Gish and Perry or is taken from another source. Either way, it’s ultimately nothing more than an extraneous piece of captured chitter-chatter quickly subsumed by noise. Two out of three ain’t bad. 6/10 --
