The Emergency String Quartet was created by Bob Marsh after the dissolution of the Phenomenal STring Quartet. The quartet has had many incarnations, and this current one is called an (X)tet because the number of participants varies from three to six, and also to emphasize the mysterious and unknown, being that this is an improvisational ensemble.
This album was recorded at the Meridian Gallery in San Francisco, and features two violins, two cellos, and a contrabass. It start out with some spooky soundtrack atmosphere, and occasionally stumbles upon it a few more times, but mostly it just sounds like some scraping, a lot of fumbling around, and just generally being difficult. 5/10 --
