Bizarre. That is the first word that comes to mind when I hear Nimbus 2000. This recording project, that apparently existed for four years, did not record a lot of material. But on this collection, we find evidence that the tracks that were recorded are interesting and deserve further exploration. On the opening piece, "Hunting For the Ogopogo," we get a strange combination of children's fairytales and synthesized ambience. A manipulated female voice reads from a children's book in the opening. It is eerie. Put together with atmospheric synth drones and squeals, you end up with a fairytale-like piece. It's quite good. As you move through this short disc, your brain is massaged with low frequency hums and high pitched wails. It is well done and Nimbus 2000's knack for catchy hooks is apparent, even in the context of formless, experimental music. The voice returns on the melodic "Puddles," hiding behind a gurgling stream of analog keys. It has a distinct '80s feel to it, but is done without being to kitschy or clich?. Nimbus 2000 may have been around for a number of years, but their entire catalog is short. This disc is only about 19 minutes long. It's too bad the group is not in existence anymore as they were headed in an interesting direction. At the Finnish Octane Grammophon has put together this disc so their memory won't be entirely forgotten. 7/10 --
