It has been previously discussed on this site about how vocals can completely ruin a band. When I first heard the White Lion vocals of the opening track, "Even Time Ghost Can't Stop Wagner," I thought I was in for another disappointment. The music was excellent; full of diverse instrumentation blended with subtle electronics. Then the vocals happened. Eden's dad is a huge Queensryche fan, so he'd probably really dig when the vocals dip into the spandex/hair band well. Me? I just want to cringe. Maybe I just can't recognize a great vocalist when I hear it or something (and maybe this is why I fucking hate Geddy Lee's voice!). The really frustrating part, though, is that the songs when the vocals are low and almost monotonousare so much better. This is the voice that complements 90 Day Men's rising, intricate, meticulous music. Musically, this is some of the most interesting stuff I've heard in a while. If I was in this band, I'd be dropping very strong hints that we should go instrumental. The singing doesn't add much to the overall work. "When Your Luck Runs Out" is a short, but excellent, example of what 90 Day Men sound like when they work. Unfortunately it's followed too quickly by more crotch-grabbing vocal stylings on "Chronological Disorder." I just can't get past that goddamn voice. 5/10 --
