It's time for more Funeral Folk madness in the analog form. This seven-song cassette is a laid-back listening affair. Laced with acoustic meanderings through the Belgian woods, Wappenhalter creates psychedelic sound world. Low-frequencies hums lace the proceedings, giving it a darker feel, like being trapped in an endless night. It's hypnotic. Wappenhalter, though, is at his best when he takes a more straight-ahead approach. "Voor Woorden" is a guitar, vocals, and percussion piece that is the most song-oriented thing I've ever heard from the Funeral Folk group. It's old-fashioned folk music. The vocals are an excellent addition and the song is catchy enough to get stuck in your head, something not yet seen with the Funeral Folk stuff. It just shows how talented and versatile this group of musicians is. Wappenhalter continues on this same path with "Moeder Rosa," an instrumental, but very relaxed song. The acoustic based melodies are whimsical and executed well. It continues the feel of the previous track, but takes it into a new direction at the same time. Organ drones and distorted acoustic skronking makes up most of "Kamer Impressies," while the tribal repercussions of "Tampax Voor Tampere" follow. It's this primitive element that is always underlying everything that the Funeral Folk crew does that makes their music so inspiring and endearing. It's music for the missing link, and I'm damn glad I'm here to experience it. 8/10 --
