John Cavanagh started making music with his friend Gayle as Electroscope in 1996. He now plays and records as Phosphene, working solo or collaborating with friends. He is involved in recording other artists too, including Nalle, Pefkin and Una MacGlone.
His work in radio has covered, literally, all sorts of music across all
areas of the BBC, where he's been a presenter since 1990. He also presents a weekly show for Radio Six International, called
The Soundwave, which hosts live sessions by the likes of Larkin Grimm, Kuupuu and Ben Reynolds.
John is the author of The Piper at the Gates of Dawn, a book on Syd Barrett and Pink Floyd's classic debut album. In 2006 he re-issued a rare Delia Derbyshire album called Electrosonic and is currently working with Ron Geesin in bringing some of his work back into print.
